Sig Sauer has some compelling new pistols premiering in ‘012 (o’twelve).  My favorite is the P224– which is in essence, a cut down P229.  The P250 and P290 fell short of expectations, but I think the Sig P224 might be able to contend with the venerable Glock 26/27 subcompacts– at least in terms of form factor, accuracy, and reliability– if not price.  Where the P250 and P290 triggers failed, the P224 relies on the legendary DA/SA trigger from the P226/P229.  It will also be available with the DAK trigger.  Not unlike Glock subcompacts, the Sig Sauer P224 will make an excellent backup gun for shooters who carry the P229 on duty.  Cleverly, the P224 shares magazines with the larger P229.  The Sig Sauer P224 is schedule to begin shipping in February.  Add yourself to the waiting list by clicking the “notify me” link next to the model you want and entering your e-mail address.

Another highly-anticipated Sig Sauer is the P938– the P238’s bigger and stronger 9mm brother.  The Sig P938 boasts a 6-round capacity and classic 1911-style single action only trigger.  All P938 models come well appointed with SIGLITE night sights.  Right now, there are four models available, but knowing Sig Sauer we can expect more variants to be introduced.

The latest shipment of High Speed Gear Inc (HSGI) modular plate carriers and pouches have arrived at our location.  If you haven’t tried one of HSGI’s extraordinary Taco pouches on your rig yet, you’re missing out.  Take the Taco double rifle pouch, for example.  All HSGI Taco rifle pouches accept both single and double stack magazines.  Different types of magazines can inhabit the same Taco double rifle pouch simultaneously. For instance, one pouch can hold an M4 magazine and a FAL magazine at the same time! Howdy, shooters.  As you know, LWRC just introduced a new weapons system at Shot Show called the Individual Carbine, or IC for short.   The LWRC IC was developed in response to the requirements of the US Army’s Individual Carbine program. It features fully ambidextrous controls on the lower receiver: dual controls for the bolt catch, magazine release, and safety selector. The upper receiver is the evolution of the SPR platform introduced back in 2011 and it sports a two position gas block not unlike the M6A3. The settings are for normal and suppressed fire. The hand guards are similar to the ones found on the SPR and REPR and are slim and ergonomic– enabling the operator to have M1913 Picatinny rails where he needs them and not where he doesn’t. The 14.7″ spiral fluted, rotary cold hammer forged barrel is 20% lighter than a conventional barrel, yet still just as strong and accurate. Another unique feature required by the gubmint is a Cerakote finish that is non-IR reflective. Civilian owners will receive standard Cerakote since the feature is controlled by ITAR. A Magpul MOE buttstock and pistol grip finish off the package nicely. The first units are shipping in February.  You can place your order today for one of these exceptional rifles here.

Other new additions to the website include the safety product of the year: SureFire’s EP4 Sonic Defender ear plugs.  These are not your grandaddy’s ear-pro– which were probably a couple of empty shell casings.  The SureFire Sonic Defender has a mechanical brake that shuts down damaging sounds at 80dB and above, which allows you to hold normal conversations when gunfire isn’t happened around you.  After trying a pair of these, you’ll never wear foam plugs (or brass casings) again!  We’re now proud to offer SureFire and Silencerco brand silencers as well.  And our HSGI webstore is up and running.  We’ll be adding more photos and video of the HSGI rigs in action.  We’re stocking gear in Coyote Brown and Mulitcam, but if you need another color, we’re happy to special order it for you.

Here’s another On Point Firearms original: a fourth generation Glock 22 that we cooked up in-house.  First, we added a Ghost Ultimate 3.5lb trigger.  Then, we finished the Gen4 frame in Steyr AUG green Duracoat.  Both Steyr and Glock are Austrian companies, so we felt that it was a natural fit.  The Gen III Glocks that had olive drab frames sold like hot cakes, so we figured this would be a hit.  And at only $650, it’s not going to last long.  [click here for the photo gallery and info on ordering]

We’ve been fielding a lot of questions about the gear list.  Specifically, the chest rig requirement for carrying magazines on your person.  If you don’t own one yet, don’t worry.  On Point Firearms is now an authorized dealer for High Speed Gear Inc.  Mean Gene, the Recon Marine, has been an institution in the USMC Force Recon/Scout Sniper community for many years.  His gear is simply the best. Essentially, our local clients have the opportunity to shoot our .177cal Feinwerkbau 300s at the shop.  To make things interesting, a friendly monthly wager will also be in place.  Shooters will have the opportunity to sight in the rifle and get used to the manual of arms.  Then, when they’re ready, they can drop $1 into the glass jar and fire a three shot group.  Your group will be scored and will be placed on the wall of fame– or shame, depending on your score.  At the end of the month, the leader takes home the pot o’ cash.

There are many reasons that 2012 is going to be an exciting year for On Point.  If you’re one of our local customers, you’ve probably heard about the newest member of our team: Mitch Milillo.  He’s a former Marine Corps Scout Sniper and instructor and has been teaching our local clients the fundamentals of marksmanship.  What makes our classes different that others is the size: limited to only 4-6 students.  This allows for a more intimate learning environment.  Nobody gets left behind.  Nobody slips through the cracks.  You’re going to be a better shooter, guaranteed!

Next week, we’re hosting our 5th class at the Manatee Gun & Archery Club– about an hour south of the shop.  Tactical Carbine 1 is a course designed to teach shooters how to properly employ the AR15, AK47, AUG, SCAR, or any other primary weapon they might have.  We’ll take you from zero to 100mph if you’re a new shooter.  If you’ve already been around the block before, we’ll take you to the next level.  Tuition is only $250 and requires a minimum of 300rds of ammo.  It’s an all day event on 12 Jan 2012 with a 1-2 hour classroom session the night before, 11 Jan, at On Point Firearms.  If you’re interested in joining us, please visit our training section to learn more. I know topics like Ghosts and Zombies go over better during Halloween than Christmas, but there’s no denying their popularity.  And if you’re shopping for a few last minute stocking stuffers, these items might fit the bill for the shooter on your list!
