I’ve been on a quest of sorts for some time, searching for the perfect knife– a fusion between Bear Grylls’ fixed-blade woodland survival blade and the quintessential gentlemen’s pocket knife. For years, that balance was realized in my Gerber 06 Automatic. I praised the Gerber for its ruggedness and razor sharp S30V steel. Well, my daily work knife has finally found its match: the Zero Tolerance Strider Ken Onion Model 0301.

My buddy Pete is one of my most trusted local clients and a real high speed, low drag LEO. He absolutely swears by Zero Tolerance knives and turned me onto this model a few months back. Well, one of our suppliers finally started carrying ZT and my first shipment arrives today! The attention to detail and build quality is phenomenal. The balance and ergonomics are unparalleled. I think it might be the perfect blade. [ click here for the photo gallery ]

The blade, of course, if 3.75″ long and constructed of the finest S30V stainless steel coated with a DLC Tungsten Tiger Stripe finish. It’s as beautiful and elegant as it is sharp. The G10 handle is Ranger OD green on the front and matte Titanium black on the back. Open, the ZT 0301 is a formidable 8 5/8″. Closed, the knife is still a burly 5 1/16″. It weighs 8 ounces empty, and 8 ounces fully loaded.

Zero Tolerance’s Speed Safe assisted opening technology is fluid and graceful. Although I prefer an automatic knife, this is much more practical and lawful. Despite its size, the Strider Ken Onion models are remarkably comfortable to carry. The pocket clip can be mounted for tip-up or tip-down carry.

ZT knives are a premium product and demand a premium price. Retail is $295, but you know your friends at On Point has you covered for a lot less. We’ll have pricing loaded later today for VIP members. None VIP members will be able to purchase at the standard MAP price of $236. [ click here for pricing ]
Have a good one and God bless. — Evan

How cool is this? 3rd Battalion 75th Ranger Regiment is celebrating its 25th year. So, Rock Island Armory got together with the Rangers and made a special run of 375 special 1911s for the guys that served. A couple of my buddies are Rangers and their first commemorative pistol arrived last week, so we thought you’d enjoy some pics!

They feature a Ranger tab on the slide including anniversary dates and a pair of beautifully engraved custom hardwood grips. “Safe Queen” material, right? Hardly. The guys already told me they’re taking these out to shoot. Then, my SEAL buddy Wayne is going to make them some custom hardwood display cases. How’s that for a joint operation?

On Point Firearms is proud to offer our clients the best firearms lube on the planet: TW25B– or as its manufacturer Mil-Comm likes to call it, Tango Whiskey Two Five Bravo. This product is the absolute FIRE, my friends. My buddies in the Chinook use it on their Dillon Aeros, M240Bs, and M4s and it lasts weeks. So, if it’s good enough for 3000+ rounds per minute, it’s surely good enough for my civilian weapons right!? Plus, it ships as the OEM lube of choice from a number of high-end brands from LWRC to Sig Sauer. We’re happy to carry Mil-Comm and offer it to our valued customers at the lowest price around. Here’s all you ever needed to know about TW25B:

TW25B is Mil-Comm’s flagship product and best seller. It’s a light synthetic grease that not unlike our elite American warriors, excels under adverse conditions (sand, dirt, high-humidity, salt-water and extreme temperature environments). TW25B provides lubrication and protection on all wear parts and the bore, eliminates galling, short-stroking, improves bore accuracy, and increases muzzle velocity! It’s ideal for long-term storage, maintaining weapons in fire-ready condition– something anyone with a concealed carry or duty firearm can appreciate. We sell TW25B in a 0.5oz syringe that’s great for trigger groups and other hard-to-reach areas, 1.5oz and 4oz tubes, and in a jumbo 16.9 fluid ounce EP spray can. This is perfume for shooters! It’s basically TW25B pre-mixed with pure isopropyl alcohol, which acts as a cleaner/degreaser and helps to deliver an even, moderate coating of TW25B to treated surfaces. The combination of TW25B grease and alcohol act as a cleaner and the TW25B grease provides the lubrication and corrosion protection. So, it’s your super-premium CLP replacement. There’s also a handy dandy cloth called the WeaponWipe that we sell as a 10 pack.

When the job calls for something less viscous, there’s MC2500 Oil. MC2500 delivers the same exceptional performance that TW25B grease is known for, but its lighter viscosity allows for easy migration to hard-to-reach weapon parts, such as trigger assemblies. It’s ideal for dispensing into parts where a full disassembly is neither desirable nor practical. We sell this in a syringe and 2oz spray bottle.

Finally, there’s MC25. MC25 is TW25B’s younger brother who got a liberal arts degree at Berkeley– a cleaner degreaser that is environmentally safe, water-based, pH balanced, non-toxic formula that emulsifies organic substances on contact including gun lubricants, powder residue and other debris. It also makes a great shampoo. MC25 properly prepares all kinds of firearms for application of lubricants like the “Two Five Bravo” or “MC Twenty-Five Hundo”. It provides gentle, powerful cleaning and de-greasing action– and helps you get in touch with your sensitive side. Plus, every MC25 product ships with a free hemp necklace. ***

*** Note: MC25 does not ship with a free hemp necklace. That was a joke.

[ click here to visit our selection of Mil-Comm TW25B, MC2500, and MC25 products ]

That’s it, my friends. We’re now your one-stop ship for everything in the Mil-Comm family of lubes. Order up some today. You’ll be glad you did! Have a good one and God bless. — Evan

Happy Friday, my friends. Now that the dust has cleared from the 2010 Show Show, a metric ton of exciting new products is on the horizon– not least of which is the Remington/Bushmaster/Magpul/Rand Corp/GE/Doritos ACR. Of course, we civilians will see the ACR come labeled as a Bushmaster, and despite the premium price tag announced at Shot Show in Vegas back in January, sales of the ACR will be staggering… I gare-ron-tee it! Remember, there was a lot of R&D that went into the creation of this gun and it took years to come to fruition. There will always be naysayers of any new product, but I think we’ll see the Bushmaster ACR answer its critics with solid performance and a strong value add. It’s a premium product– not unlike LWRC, Schmidt und Bender, or Les Baer. It’s not for everyone and it’s not meant to be. It’s an exceptional and exclusive rifle, right folks?!

Here’s the skinny: There are two different flavors of the Bushmaster ACR: a Basic and an Enhanced configuration. The Enhanced ACR has an AAC flash hider, folding and six-position telescoping stock, and 2-point push button sling– in addition to all the standard features. I’ve got pricing loaded into the system. [ click here for more info ]

According to our Bushmaster distributors, these should start shipping in March. However, dealers realistically can expect to start receiving product in June or July. So, check out the pricing and decide is the ACR is something you’d like sitting in your safe this summer. You can have our website notify you via e-mail when the first shipment arrives. Click the “notify me” link next to the one you want and enter your e-mail address.

That’s it, my friends. Keep sending in those Facebook CCW photos. It’s a tight race so far and we’ve got a week to go. Have a good weekend and God bless. — Evan

That’s it, my fine feathered friends… I’m going to pull a Lee Corso and declare a winner between the FN SCAR and the Remington ACR– well, now it’s the Bushmaster ACR for civilians, but you get the picture. Between the two, it’s definitely the latter. And before you say “not so fast, my friend!”, just hear me out.

I’ve heard mixed reviews from guys who have tested the SCAR– from the feel of the butt stock to the problematic reciprocating bolt. In the civilian market, FN has been slower than molasses bringing these rifles to market. Not as bad as HK bringing a civilian 416 to the shelves, but you get the picture. As you know, Magpul has been one of the most forward thinking companies in the firearms industry in recent years. The Masada was pure genius and sparked the imagination of shooters across the globe when it debuted at Shot Show several years ago. Then, Bushmaster bought the gun and renamed it the ACR. It was notably absent during last year’s Shot Show in Orlando, but we expect a huge showing later this month in Las Vegas. Now, Remington is extremely well positioned in both the civilian and military marketplace with its new Military Products Division (MPD) and recent acquisition of the best silencer manufacturer on the planet: Advanced Armament Corp. To celebrate this achievement, they’re releasing a new music compilation “Now, That’s What I Call Synergy: Volume I.” .

Seriously, with economies of scale at play, there’s nothing to hold back Remington. They’ve got the infrastructure to mass produce the ACR and give Advanced Armament the tools they need to grow exponentially. With the ACR and the robust product line of AAC, Remmy is in the perfect position to service the growing needs of the military and law enforcement communities as well as appease the civilian sector with high quality gear at competitive price points. Of course, we civilians will see the ACR come from Bushmaster. And despite the expensive pricing announced at Shot Show in Vegas back in January, sales of the ACR will be staggering. Remember, there was a lot of R&D that went into the creation of this gun and it took years to come to fruition. There are always naysayers with every new product, but I think we’ll see the Bushmaster ACR answer its critics with solid performance and a strong value add.

There are two different flavors of the Bushmaster ACR: a Basic and an Enhanced configuration. The Enhanced ACR has an AAC flash hider, folding and six-position telescoping stock, and 2-point push button sling– in addition to all the standard features. And believe me, the ACR is feature rich:

* 16 ½” cold hammer-forged barrel with innovative coating for extreme long life (1×7″ and 1×9″ twist available)
* A2 “birdcage-type” hider to control muzzle flash or AAC Blackout flash hider with exceptional signature reduction on the Enhanced model
* Adjustable, two-position gas-piston-driven system, for firing suppressed or unsuppressed
* Tool-less quick-change barrel system available in 10.5″, 14.5″, 16.5″ and 18″ and in multiple calibers
* Multi-caliber bolt carrier assembly quickly and easily changes from 223/5.56mm NATO to 6.8mm Rem SPC
* Free-floating MIL-STD 1913 monolithic top rail for optic mounting
* Fully ambidextrous controls include magazine release, bolt catch and release, fire selector and non-reciprocating charging handle
* High-impact composite hand guard with heat shield – accepts rail inserts
* High-impact composite lower receiver with textured magazine well and modular grip storage
* Fixed high-impact composite A-frame stock or folding and six-position telescoping (Enhanced model) with rubber butt pad and sling mounts
* Magpul MBUS front/rear flip sights
* Ships in oversized hard case for accessory storage, includes 30-round PMAG * 2-point push button sling on the Enhanced model

Howdy, friends. Here’s your midweek sitrep from On Point Firearms:

Ruger has a new version of their LCP that apparently hasn’t even hit their website yet. It’s a hard chrome edition– an exclusive for one of our Ruger distributors: Lipsey’s in Louisiana. I remember when Bob Cogan and the rest of APW Cogan Custom was headquartered here in Palm Harbor, FL many years ago. He did a lot of hard chrome work for Kel-tec, RRA, STI, and other manufacturers. Now, he’s up in ‘Bama, but I think I recognize his work here. The finish on the LCP looks great. [ click here for the photo gallery ]

As you now, the new Expert GI45 1911 series from Para Ordnance has been a hot seller. It’s a lot of gun for the money. Well now they’ve added a stainless model to the lineup and we’ve got one in stock for $535. [ click here for the photo gallery ]

We just updated our clearance section with a few late 2009 leftovers, so take a look. There’s a Kimber Desert Warrior, Walther PPS 9mm, Austrian-proof-marked Glock 19, HK P2000SK in .40sw, and a couple of LWRC M6A2s at well under dealer cost. [ click here to visit our clearance section ]

ATN NVG Group Buy Status = Pending Epic Fail
A lot of folks are on the fence about this purchase, and only a few (literally) have stepped up and put money down. If sales don’t pick up by the end of the week, we’re going to pull the plug on the deal. Deadline for orders is next Monday, 15 FEB 2010 by the time I get home from my morning swim– say, about 0800hrs. [ click here for our ATN NVG group buy ]

That’s all for now, my friends. I just got in some more ball .380acp ammo this week, so I will be taking the little Diamondback DB380 out to the range again for a more thorough examination. I’ll let you know the results post haste! Have a good one and God bless.

On the morning of 30 September 2009, I had back surgery to correct a couple of herniated discs. Needless to say, the following days in recovery were a complete haze. At one point during my stay, a psych ward patient wandered into my room and I thought she was my nurse!

So when one of the brand new Robinson Arms XCR PDWs appeared at the shop last week, I was naturally excited to see it– but for the life of me, I couldn’t figure out who ordered it! There were no records of the sale, but the invoice was from those days in early October when I was in another world. Turns out, the medication was pretty strong and yours truly placed a purchase order for a fictional character from the biggest entertainment blockbuster ever: Modern Warfare 2– a video game.

Apparently, the clandestine operator from Task Force 141 known only as “Ghost” had pre-ordered the PDW with us– hoping to have it in time for the game’s highly-anticipated North American launch on 10 NOV 2009. The game has grossed over $1 Billion since then, so Ghost has been busy. However, he was on a much needed leave from the one-forty-one this weekend and met with us to take delivery of his new short-barreled rifle.

This is the XCR PDW MINI with a 9in 1:7 twist 5.56mm NATO barrel and shorty 11in length-of-pull side-folding stock. Ghost and the rest of TF141 heavily customize their weapons based on personal preference and mission requirements. So, after a plate of fish and chips and a pint of Guiness stout (for inspiration), Ghost added some Flat Dark Earth accessories from Tango Down– including rail covers, a BattleGrip, and a QD short vertical grip. The 141 “goes silent” on a lot of missions, so Ghost brought along a Gemtech HALO sound suppressor and an Aimpoint CompM2. A few rolls of McNett Camoform in the digital desert pattern were used to wrap the optics, PMags, and butt stock. Ghost was so happy with the results, he agreed to a rare photo shoot. Enjoy: [ click here for the XCR PDW photo gallery ]

Have a good week, my friends… and God bless! — Evan

Sit down, fasten your seat belts, take your heart medication, clock out, and go on break– this is important. On Point Firearms is doing its first ever ATN Night Vision Group Buy. Our exclusive VIP members normally buy at dealer price, but by ordering directly from ATN in bulk, we’ll be able to leverage distributor pricing from ATN! So, if you’ve ever wanted professional-grade night vision, now is the time.

Before we discuss pricing, it’s important to reiterate that this is professional-grade equipment– the same kind used by our military. It’s true that a sportsman could get by with a $500 system since his primary mission would be spotting fallen cans of Coors Light from a tree stand. However, shooters and survivalists have different needs. They require ruggedness, clarity, and waterproofcicity. I made up that last word, but you get the picture. In an extreme situation, having NVGs can be a huge force multiplier. You can have all the guns and ammo in the world, but you can only carry a little at a time. When the power grid is down, the ability to see at night is unparalleled. Well, situational awareness and training helps, but we’re not selling that today!

Here’s your crash course in NVGs. Night vision technology is broken up into different levels. Gen 1 night vision is the gear you buy at Wal-mart for $500. Gen 2 costs a lot more and is widely used in the law enforcement sector. Gen 3 is what our military uses. Gen 4 is scary cool and the price of a Rolex.

Gen 2+ is our starting point. You get a lot of cool features like the micro-channel plate (MCP) that the previous first generation models didn’t have. It’s a lot brighter and clearer. The resolution is 40-45 lines per millimeter (lp/mm). The service life is 5000 hours. The next step up is Gen 2 CGT. CGT is an image intensifier, so you get better resolution 45-54lp/mm, and twice the service life: 10000 hours. For only a couple hundred dollars more, you get twice the service life. That’s huge! Upgrade from CGT to Gen 2 HPT and you’ll enjoy increased sensitivity (what are we talking about again?), resolution (51-64lp/mm), and a whole array of whiz bang features. HPT is said to be equivalent to Gen 3. Of course, Gen 3 is the military standard and you also get 51-64lp/mm resolution and a chemical called gallium arsenide that makes the image brighter and sharper. If you drink gallium arsenide, you can communicate with dead pets from your childhood. Then there’s Gen 3A (64-72lp/mm), Gen 3P Pinnacle, and Gen 4. Gen 4 is top dollar, shit hot technology. It uses something called “gated filmless technology” and is the biggest tech breakthrough in the past 10 years. I would buy Gen 4 if NVGs were going to be part of my every day life. Since they’re not, I’d prefer a nice watch that I could look at every day– or 5000 lottery tickets. What can I say, I’m stupid when it comes to money. So, we’ve covered the different levels of technology. Now, let’s talk about the different models.

The reason we’re doing a night vision group buy in the first place is because my Army Ranger buddy wants to. After last year’s Shot Show I had originally wanted a weapons-mounted PS22 model that would attach to any M1913 Picatinny rail and cinch down in front of the daytime optics of your choosing. My buddy reminded me that you don’t necessarily want to point your weapon at everything you want to see in a low light environment. “Hey honey, can you check on the kids?” Sure, let me point my M4 carbine at them. Instead, we are focusing on a monocular– a handheld device you can wear on your helmet, with headgear, or mount on your weapon. He used a PVS14 in the Rangers. We’re looking at the NVM14 and the 6015– which is based on the military PVS14.

Both units are robust and waterproof. They accept AA batteries, have a 40 degree field of view, digital controls, and similar dimensions. You’re really buying a different form factor– and that’s it. The 6015 units also ship with headgear included as standard equipment, but even if you buy it separately, the NVM14 still ends up being less expensive. ATN offers a better price on the NVM14– the discounts are much more substantial, so unless you want a PVS14 look alike, I would recommend the NVM14 model. It’s just a better value.
Let’s get down to the biscuits and gravy, folks: pricing. I did some cost benefit analysis yesterday and here’s what I came up with: NVGs are EXPENSIVE! There are four prices on the schedule. There’s MSRP (full blown retail), MAP (minimum advertised price that dealers can advertise), dealer cost, and distributor cost. The biggest discount off of MSRP is for the NVM14-HPT model. That’s our sweet spot, my friends. The NVM14 models don’t come with headgear, but even if you buy it separately, you’re still $400+ less than the comparable 6015-HPT model. If you want to step up to Gen 3, the delta between the NVM14-3 and 6015-3 falls to $200+ when the cost of headgear is considered. If you do want the 6015 form factor, then the best deal is at the HPT level. The NVM14 is also a better solution if you want to upgrade to a universal helmet mount in lieu of the headgear kit– for only $31 more.

[ click here for pricing info ]

We can only leverage distributor cost if we collectively buy 20+ units. So, 20 units will be placed on the website. You can place your orders, payment will be accepted, but nothing will ship until all 20 units are sold. Then, we can make the group buy. If we don’t get orders in a couple of weeks, then all monies will be refunded. However, I’m confident that at least 20 of us will be interested and the buy will happen swiftly. I think I have about 10 guys locally that are interested, so we’ll be halfway there.

If you have any questions, let me know. Thanks and God bless! — Evan
