On Point Firearms’ perennial best sellers in the polymer pistol category are the Glock, the Springfield Armory XD/XDM, and the Smith & Wesson M&P series. If a shooter doesn’t like the grip angle of the former, chances are they’ll choose one of the latter. They’re all great pistols. I’m pleased to report that Class 006 for this weekend is completely booked! But don’t worry, we have another class locked on for next Saturday, 28 JAN 2012. This will be your opportunity to be part of Class 007– our final Carbine 1 course until March. Carbine 1 graduates have demanded that we begin offering Carbine 2– a higher intensity class that builds on the fundamentals they have learned. Carbine 1 is a course prerequisite for Carbine 2. Howdy, shooters! Last Thursday’s tactical carbine class was amazing. The guys from Class 005 ran the drills like total professionals. One student even rocked an Arsenal AK in 7.62×39! We’ve been fielding a lot of questions about the gear list. Specifically, the chest rig requirement for carrying magazines on your person. If you don’t own one yet, don’t worry. On Point Firearms is now an authorized dealer for High Speed Gear Inc. Mean Gene, the Recon Marine, has been an institution in the USMC Force Recon/Scout Sniper community for many years. His gear is simply the best. In fact, Mitch still has the same Warlord plate carrier that went with him on two deployments to Iraq and it’s still going strong– not a single stitch is missing! We’ll be sending out more info on his innovative product line later this week, so stay tuned!

You’re looking at an Olympic pellet rifle from yesteryear: the Feinwerkbau 300s. This German masterpiece was the gun to beat in the early to mid 80s. It’s a hefty 10.8lbs and the trigger is a nonexistent 3.5 ounces. That’s right… ounces, not pounds. A customer brought it in last month for us to sell on consignment and I decided, after shooting it, that I had to have it for my son– a son that hasn’t even been conceived yet. In the Olympics, shooters fire these pellet rifles standing, off hand, from a distance of 10 meters. They have 105 minutes to hit 60 targets. In honor of this rifle, we’re starting something new at On Point Firearms called “Feinwerkbau Fridays.”
Essentially, our local clients have the opportunity to shoot our .177cal Feinwerkbau 300s at the shop. To make things interesting, a friendly monthly wager will also be in place. Shooters will have the opportunity to sight in the rifle and get used to the manual of arms. Then, when they’re ready, they can drop $1 into the glass jar and fire a three shot group. Your group will be scored and will be placed on the wall of fame– or shame, depending on your score. At the end of the month, the leader takes home the pot o’ cash.
If you find yourself in the neighborhood and would like to compete, just shoot me an e-mail! All in-store clients picking up their orders will also be able to shoot on days other than Friday.

There are many reasons that 2012 is going to be an exciting year for On Point. If you’re one of our local customers, you’ve probably heard about the newest member of our team: Mitch Milillo. He’s a former Marine Corps Scout Sniper and instructor and has been teaching our local clients the fundamentals of marksmanship. What makes our classes different that others is the size: limited to only 4-6 students. This allows for a more intimate learning environment. Nobody gets left behind. Nobody slips through the cracks. You’re going to be a better shooter, guaranteed!
Next week, we’re hosting our 5th class at the Manatee Gun & Archery Club– about an hour south of the shop. Tactical Carbine 1 is a course designed to teach shooters how to properly employ the AR15, AK47, AUG, SCAR, or any other primary weapon they might have. We’ll take you from zero to 100mph if you’re a new shooter. If you’ve already been around the block before, we’ll take you to the next level. Tuition is only $250 and requires a minimum of 300rds of ammo. It’s an all day event on 12 Jan 2012 with a 1-2 hour classroom session the night before, 11 Jan, at On Point Firearms.
